Ingredients

Grade 1-K Illuminating Paraffin (CnH2n+2)
Urea – formaldehyde (UF) Resin [ (O) CNHCH²NH] n
Orthophosphoric Acid (H³ PO4) Water (H2O)
Sorghum bicolor meal (Sorghum in powder form)
Sorghum bicolor seeds (Sorghum in whole seed form)

Directions of use

  1. Remove firelighters from packaging. Place firelighters on safe surface. Safe surface would be any surface that would not be damaged by high heat or fire.
  2. Use 6 pieces (100g) to light 2kg of charcoal or briquettes.
  3. Space firelighters evenly on safe surface. Place charcoal around firelighters ensuring good air circulation. Light all the firelighters moving continuously in one direction. Once the charcoal or wood has ignited the firelighters can be covered with more charcoal or wood as deemed necessary.
  4. The fire would be ready in 20 to 30 minutes for the preparation of food on the open fire. The charcoal will be covered in a light layer of white ash. Spread the coals evenly to cover the surface of the grill. Ensure that no coals are spread further than the safe surface.
  5. To test if fire is ready for braai hold the palm of our hand 5 cm from the grill surface. If you are able to hold your hand there for at least three seconds without pulling it back, the fire is ready. If not, it is too hot. Be careful not to burn your hand.

First Aid

  • If burned, resulting wounds should be treated similar to other burn wounds.
  • Minor burn wounds can heal with only first aid and/or self-medication.
  • Major burn wounds require immediate medical care.
  • If ingested, vomiting should not be induced. The poisons Information Centre can be contacted at 086 155 5777 and/or immediate medical attention sought. If eyes have been exposed, eyes should be washed with clean luke warm water until burning sensation ceases.
  • If burning sensation do not ceases or vision is impaired after burning sensation ceases seek medical attention.
  • If areas of sensitive skin or minor wounds have been exposed, wash with household soap and luke warm water. If the discomfort do not cease seek medical attention.

Warnings

  1. Never use indoors unless fire is ventilated by a chimney. Proper ventilation is essential because fire gives off toxic carbon monoxide gas.
  2. Never allow children and pets near a lit fire or leave the fire unattended. Keep firelighters out of the reach of children and pets. Firelighters are dangerous and poisonous if ingested.
  3. Never attempt to light using petrol/methylated spirits or other flammable liquids (it can cause a dangerous flash flame).
  4. Never place hot ash into a dustbin. Wait until the ash is cold before disposing of it.
  5. Never cook over flames as it will burn the food on the outside without cooking the inside.
  6. Never braai near flammable objects, overhangs and trees. Always shelter a fire form the wind to prevent windblown sparks.
  7. Never commence to prepare food on the fire unless the fire lighters are completely burned as it will spoil the food.
